Candelaria is a well-known turquoise from Nevada. The story of Candelaria may be found in Turquoise in America Part Two 1910-1990.
I bought this cabochon from Wayne Nelson who mined this stone from a concession he had with NERCO mining who owned the Candelaria silver mine in 1985. It weighs 6.4 carats and is 1.4 cm by 1cm. It is priced at $80 a carat or $512. It has not been treated and is lightly backed. I have assigned a TG of 91.25 or Gem Grade GG. Red web Candelaria of this grade is very rare in the marketplace. It shows the characteristic deep blue floating over a reddish-brown matrix. Color in photo may vary slightly from the actual stone.
