Thunder Mountain is located between Easter Blue and Pilot Mountain in Nevada. It is currently owned by Shreve Saville and this cab was mined by Shreve and the late Greg Fink who was working on shares. Thunder Mountain is not well known but has produced some of the highest grade of turquoise in recent years. It was formerly an Otteson claim.
This cabochon weighs 18.4 carats and is priced at $40 a carat or $736. Comparable grade from more well-known mines may be twice as expensive. I have assigned a TG of 90.5 or VHG near to the 91 for GG (Gem Grade). I imagine many would grade this as GG. It would look amazing set in 18 karat gold in a large ring, medium bracelet or small bolo/pendant.
