Candelaria 22.7 carat GG

Candelaria is considered one of the seven classic turquoise of Nevada but it was never a named claim. The turquoise came from the dumps of the Candelaria silver mine and was high graded except for one year, 1985, when Wayne Nelson received the concession from NERCO, to mine the turquoise from the dumps. The story is found in Turquoise in America Part Two, 1910-1990.

This cab weighs 22.7 carat and measures 3cm X 2cm X 3mm. It is priced at $100 a carat or $2200. It is not treated and is backed. I have assigned a TG of 93 or GG. I purchased the stone from Wayne Nelson who mined the turquoise and cut the cab. Candelaria with strong provenance is difficult to find in the market especially at gem grade. White spot is camera flash.
